Community Access (CAP) Funding Cuts

Thanks to Harper's Gov't., funding through Industry Canada has been cut. Learning Centres and Community Access Sites in Public Libraries across this country are affected. Industry Canada said that "their objectives have been met". Rural areas are affected, rural public libraries are affected. The loss of this funding for OSM Public Library--$10,000 a year--a huge chunk. The loss to our communities in rural Ontario is huge. Affordable, accessible high speed Internet in rural Ontario is lost. The cost of "trying" to maintain a level of standard in technology in rural public libraries will be passed on to our patrons.
