If you love a bear by Piers Harper.
Simply told through a series of episodes in the day of a boy and a very big bear, this tender, slightly undersize (and affordably priced) book manages to both flatter a child's sense of competence and teach the rewards of thinking about others. "If you love a bear," Harper (Turtle Quest) begins, "you will know that bears like to be woken up gently."
Our book this week has the attributes of Vocabulary skills and Print awareness skills. Your child will love this cute tale on how to love a bear. Please joins us every Tuesday as we explore wonderful stories.....

Dewey's Christmas at the Library is our story this week.
After finding a red ball of yarn, Dewey the cat, who lives in the Spencer, Iowa, public library, finds a way to help decorate the Christmas tree.

Our book this week for Every Child Ready to Read is Print Awareness and Print Motivation.  Parts of the story are on different sections of the page to direct your child's eye on how we read from left to right and top to bottom.  The print motivation comes from seeing how much fun Dewey is having with all the wonderful colours and ornaments that he discovers in the Christmas decorations box. Wonderful stories like Dewey's Christmas at the Library motivates children to learn how to print. Children will laugh at how much fun Dewey is having.

We are singing Christmas songs and familiar songs that we love to sing.  Please come and join us as we sing, laugh and create crafts for Christmas.

Our Story this week is "There Were Monkeys in my Kitchen" written by Sheree Fitch illustrations by Sydney Smith.

A young girl awakens one morning to total chaos when she discovers hordes of chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans have taken over her home.

This book is an example of how a child's imagination can make a small thing seem large.  Our every child ready to read program helps to develop a child's love of books.  This week our book has phonological awareness, print awareness and narrative skills.   Rhyming, wonderful pictures and a story to be told and re-told, makes this a must read book.

We will be singing our fun songs, doing a small craft and of course listening as  poor Willa discovers a mess in her house that was caused by a kitchen full of monkeys.

Our story this week is "Where's My Mummy" by Carolyn Crimi.
This gently spooky read-aloud treat is also a satisfying bedtime book sure to delight the youngest reader on many a deep, dark night. Little Baby Mummy wants just one more game of hide-and-shriek with Big Mama Mummy before bedtime. The night is deep and dark, full of friendly creatures that click their clacky teeth and whoosh past on flippy-floppy wings. But who will comfort Little Baby Mummy if a small, scritchy-scratchy someone gives him a scare? Big Mama Mummy, of course! Fresh, comical illustrations complement this ever-so-slightly suspenseful story with a satisfying end.

Come and bring your children to our weekly story time.  We sing silly songs, hear special stories based on our Every Child Ready To Read program.  This program helps to develop a love of reading as your child gets ready to read.  We also have fun crafts every week.
