Our Story this week is The Pout-Pout Fish

 Deep in the water, Mr. Fish swims about With his fish face stuck In a permanent pout. Can his pals cheer him up? Will his pout ever end? Is there something he can learn From an unexpected friend? Swim along with the pout-pout fish as he discovers that being glum and spreading dreary wearies isn t really his destiny. Bright ocean colors and playful rhyme come together in this fun fish story that s sure to turn even the poutiest of frowns upside down. 

Our Every Child Ready to Read theme is Letter knowledge and Phonological awareness.

 We will be singing fun songs like row row your boat, Mr. Sun, ABC and more.  The children will be making special shiny fish for their craft.

Pre-school Story Time Tuesday June 12 10 a.m.

Our Story This Week is :  First Place Freddie written by Peter Bently and Daniel Howarth

First Place Freddie is one of a series of colorful tales for young children clearly meant to teach a lesson. In this case, Freddie the Flounder feels he is boring, in contrast to his friends Angel Fish, Puffer Fish, and Sprat. They all are bound to win a prize at the Fish Talent Show. However, it turns out that Freddy is able to foil Shark from eating his friends and earns a special prize for being himself. Just in case there is any question as to what the moral is, the book ends with a page for parents and teachers spelling out how it can be used in a classroom.



Our Every Child Ready to Read theme for the next 2 weeks is Letter Knowledge.  Books can help children learn the names of letters and the sound that they make. 

Reading to your child  for 5 minutes a day will get them ready to delve into a wonderful world of books.

 Talk to your child about the cover of the book.  Ask them what they think the story is about just by looking at the cover.  You will be surprised at the responses.  You and your child will have fun as you discover the joy of reading together.

Pre-school Story Time Tuesday June 5 2012 10 a.m.

Our story this week is SWIM! SWIM! BY JAMES PROIMOS.

Lerch the goldfish wants a friend, which is difficult since he's the only fish in his tank. Undaunted, he swims around his tank, talking to the gravel, the plastic undersea diver, and the bubbles, though sadly none of them answer him. Just when he thinks he's as lonely as a fish can be (in a wonderfully empty two-page spread), a cat arrives outside the tank and talks to Lerch. But, uh-oh, he calls him Lunch. Fear not, though, as young readers and storytime audiences will be greatly relieved by the final, friendly twist to the story. Though Lerch gets the credit for this picture book, James Proimos is responsible for the art and story. He uses the comic-book format, with panels and word balloons, to great effect here; Lerch's repeated Swim! Swim! can be a nice storytime chant. The bright colors and clear art match the simple story and will attract the youngest read-to-me set.--Kan, Kat Copyright 2010 Booklist 

Our every child ready to read theme this week is print awareness. Noticing print, knowing how to handle a book and knowing how to follow the words on a page.

When you read to your child gently run your finger underneath the words so your child sees the direction of how words go.

We will be singing wonderful songs like Row Row your boat, My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, Baby Bumble Bee, I hear thunder and more.

Our story this week is "Zinnia's Flower Garden" by Monica Wellington

Planting is such fun!

Zinnia plants a garden, eagerly waits for the plants to grow, sells the beautiful flowers, then gathers seeds to plant the following year.

Our Every Child Ready To Read this week is Narrative Skills.  
Choose titles that repeat or predict to encourage telling or retelling.






We will be planting sunflower seeds with the children this week.  So make sure your little one is in older clothes.

We will be singing wonderful songs like Baby Bumble Bee, Mr. Sun, I Hear Thunder, I'm A Firefighter.

Story Time Tuesday May 8th 10 a.m.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL MOTHERS!

Our Story this week is Mommy's Hands by Kathryn Lasky & Jane Kamine

To a small child, a mother's hands are almost magical. Mommy's hands can draw and bake, comfort and cuddle, point out the stars in the night sky and plant a beautiful garden. This charming book, told from the point of view of three different young children, is sure to bring smiles of joy and recognition to both moms and their little ones. 

This week our every child ready to read theme is Vocabulary.  

 This is how is all begins.  Knowing the name of things.  Talk with your child and ask them to name the different things at home or while you are shopping. Verbal interaction with your child at any age is very important.

We will be making something very special for all Mom's and grandmother's during craft time.  

We will be singing wonderful songs such as:  Baby bumble bee, Mr. Sun, If you are happy and you know it, Baa Baa black sheep and many many more.
