Tuesday Pre School Story Time

Pre School Story Time
Tuesday December 10th
10 a.m. Cost: $2.00 per child

Our story this week is Who Will Help Santa This Year?  by Jerry Pallotta. This year, the job is just too big. Santa Claus needs help in his workshop! He posts a sign in his yard, and soon the applicants start arriving. But the mermaids get the toys wet. The fairies leave glitter everywhere. The gnomes think brussels sprouts make great presents. And the wizards have turned Santa into a frog! Just when things are looking desperate, the elves arrive to save the day! A companion book to Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight?, this humorous peek behind the scenes at the North Pole is told in Jerry Pallotta’s kid-friendly style and beautifully illustrated by David Biedrzycki.

Our Ready to Read theme this month is Phonological Awareness.  Phonological awareness consists of skills that typically develop gradually and sequentially through the late preschool period.  They are developed with direct training and exposure.
Awareness of sounds in a language
Awareness of rhymes,
Awareness that sentences can be broken down into words, syllables, and sounds
Ability to talk about, reflect upon, and manipulate sounds

Understanding the relationship between  written and spoken language

Please join us as we sing Christmas Songs and listen to our story.

Our story this week is : Three Snow Bears by Jan Brett. Retells the story of Goldilocks, set in an igloo.  Aloo-ki glances up from fishing and sees her sled dogs floating off on an ice floe. She races after them and comes upon an igloo. Being a curious girl, she goes inside only to find no one home. Thatœs because the polar bear family who lives there is out walking while their breakfast cools off. Aloo-ki eats some soup, tries on their boots, and finally crawls into the smallest bed for a nap. Meanwhile, Papa, Mama, and Baby Bear see her dogs adrift, swim out to rescue them and return home to find Aloo-ki fast asleep in Baby Bearœs bed.Jan traveled to the far North to meet the Inuit people and see the amazing land where they live. Dramatic illustrations capture the shimmering ice, snow and deep blue seas of the Arctic, and when Jan adds a raven-haired Inuit girl and her appealing huskies, an endearing family of polar bears, and playful Arctic animals in the borders, the result is one of her most beautiful picture books. The decorative Inuit patterns and clothing Jan uses throughout are sure to attract adult fans and collectors while children will want to listen to and look at this exciting version of a well-loved story over and over again.

This book is a great example of Narrative Skills.  You want to read the book to your child over and over again.  We will be creating an igloo with some help from something sweet.  See you on Tuesday morning.

Scared-Cat Splat by Rob Scotton.
It's Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately he's just too much of a scaredy-cat. He's afraid of a little spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that he tips over his jack-o'-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a small, black, furry creature with a big pumpkin head. Whooooo can it be?
Please join us for lots of fun, singing and a wonderful story.

Again! by Emily Gravett.  It's nearly Cedric the dragon's bedtime -- there's just time for his mum to read him his favourite book. Unfortunately for her, Cedric likes the story so much that he wants to hear it again . . . and again . . . and again . . . with incendiary consequences! A typically clever and quite irresistible book from a star talent.

This story is a great book for young children.  They love to hear their favourite story told my parents and caregivers over and over.  Again!encompasses the Narrative Skills that encourage children to listen to this wonderful story as baby dragon anxiously waits to hear his special book.

We will be creating a special craft for the children to give to Mom's for Mothers Day.  Please come and join us as we hear our wonderful story and sing our silly songs over and over again!

Have Fun Molly Lou Mellon by Patty Lovell. Molly Lou Melon's grandma taught her to be happy with herself no matter what, but that's not all she learned. Molly Lou heard all about how her grandma didn't have fancy store-bought toys when she was little. She made dolls out of twigs and flowers and created her own fun in her backyard. So Molly Lou does just that, proving that the best thing to play with is a huge imagination!

Our Every Child Ready To Read theme for the month of March is Vocabulary Skills. Knowing the names of things. As we read to our children they learn new words every day.  Have fun reading to your child.  You don't have to be a great reader just spending the time with your child is all it takes.  They don't know the difference so have fun and enjoy your special time.

Please come and join us every Tuesday at the Keene Library.  We hear fun stories, sing silly songs like My Dog is a Counting Dog, and we also create wonderful crafts for the children to take home....

There is a small fee of $2.00 per child.

Princesses Love to Share by Timothy Knapman.
Polly owns many wonderful things, but learns from her friend Chloe that they are even better when shared.

Our Book this week is based on the Vocabulary Skills.
The skill we’ll look at this month is Vocabulary, knowing the names of things. First, children understand words for things (like juice, bottle, Mommy), then for feelings and concepts, and then ideas. Books give us three times as many unusual words as we use in everyday conversation. If our children have heard these words before, it will be easier for them to sound them out and recognize them when they learn to read.

Please join us as we explore how Princess Polly learns to share.  This book helps to develop your children's vocabulary.  We will sing silly songs, create a craft and of course play musical instruments during our song time.

If you love a bear by Piers Harper.
Simply told through a series of episodes in the day of a boy and a very big bear, this tender, slightly undersize (and affordably priced) book manages to both flatter a child's sense of competence and teach the rewards of thinking about others. "If you love a bear," Harper (Turtle Quest) begins, "you will know that bears like to be woken up gently."
Our book this week has the attributes of Vocabulary skills and Print awareness skills. Your child will love this cute tale on how to love a bear. Please joins us every Tuesday as we explore wonderful stories.....
